Cold Sores
Cold sores are also known as fever blisters are very common. Although there’s no cure for cold sores there are still steps to prevent frequent outbreaks and limit its spread.
Cold sores are triggered by a contagious virus medically known as herpes simplex. There are two kinds of herpes simplex virus. Type 1 triggers oral herpes also known as cold sores. Type 1 herpes is so common that the virus is already present in more than half of the U.S. population in their 20s. Type 2 virus normally hits the genital area.
Some people don’t experience any symptoms after the infection. But some tend to develop painful and nasty cold sores that stay for weeks. Cold sores usually appear on cheeks, the lips and eve in our nostrils. If cold sore takes place inside our mouth, then you may spot them either on the gums or the roof of the mouth.
Since there are no cures medicines are temporary relief to take away some the pain and discomfort due to the sores. These could be ointments that anesthetize the fever blisters or powerful antibiotics that try to eliminate bacterial infections. There are also ointments that dry sores so that they heal as quickly as possible.
